Aston, a solitary and introverted man, resides in a cramped top-floor room of an abandoned house in a rundown London neighborhood. He crosses paths with Mac Davies, a disheveled older man who has recently lost his job at a local café. Aston extends his hand in friendship and invites Mac to stay with him, eventually offering him a position as the caretaker of the decaying house.
